A more sustainable energy future is within our reach but the costs of deployment of energy supply technologies in general is a key barrier for rapid deployment, preventing market penetration and uptake. An analysis in terms of primary market parameters such as demand, cost functions and profit functions provides valuable insights into the relationship between uptake of abatement technology and market structure. It is commonly discussed that technological advancement will ensure a switch to cleaner technologies but this seminar will explore issues such as barriers including cost and strategic behaviour in markets that will impact on the deployment of energy technologies in a carbon constrained (or regulated) world.
