UWA graduate, Patrick Hollingworth, presents his journey to the summit of Mount Everest. From his initial attraction to mountains during a visit to New Zealand as an eighteen year old, to his bravery in overcoming a fear of heights, Patrick was determined to one day tackle Mount Everest. When struck by pulmonary oedema in 2006 during what was the lead-up climb to Ama Dablam in Nepal, he nearly gave up on his dream but his focus to eventually climb Everest remained strong.
Patrick made it to the summit of Mount Everest (8850m) on Monday 17 May 2010. Patrick's achievement is even more remarkable in light of his fifteen year struggle with depression. He hopes his story will prove that it is possible to achieve your dreams and will especially provide some comfort and inspiration to others suffering from the disease that is depression.
