Physiological stress and resultant oxidative stress : School of Anatomy & Human Biology Seminar - Guest Speaker Other events...
Speaker: Dr.Mathangi has a Doctorate in Medical Physiology and over 15 years of research and 11 years of teaching experience. She is a member of various professional bodies and has won several National Awards. Her main area of research is Stress Physiology

Seminar: Stress has become an inevitable component of present day life. We compromise many things to meet our goals, like skipping lunch, decreasing the amount of sleep, etc. We also expose ourselves to work related stressors, including work related posture, light, heat or noise exposures and even exposure to toxic chemicals. In the last decade Dr.Mathangi has been using animal models to examine the physiological effects of REM sleep deprivation, noise stress, light stress and chronic exposure to sublethal doses of cyanide. The present talk will give an overview of Dr Mathangi’s studies in oxidative stress during pregnancy and labour and of the physiological effects of REM sleep deprivation.
