-----------------
The tropical rivers of northern Australia are world renowned for their high biodiversity and conservation values. They support many important industries in the region including tourism, commercial and recreational fishing. Research is revealing how fire, weeds and water use may transform the region's environments and is also helping to improve the way these elements are managed. A/Prof Michael Douglas, School for Environmental Research, Charles Darwin University, has researched the effects of catchment management on tropical rivers, floodplains and wetlands in Australia and overseas.
