SymbioticA Friday Seminar> Speaker: Tatjana Seserko; Title: Viennese Actionism: Total Art and the Social Unconscious; Time & Location: 3:30-5pm @ SymbioticA; “Ever since its inception in the early 1960s, Viennese Actionism has been referred to as one of the most contested artistic directions in the history of 20th century avant-garde. This talk will trace the inceptive stages of Actionism in specific relation to its local socio-political milieux, and how the pragmatism of petit bourgeois shaped the course of brutality inherent in their art. I will specifically focus on the emergence of their collaborative endeavours through projects such as die Blutorgel (the Blood Organ)(1962) and Kunst und Revolution (Art and Revolution) (1968)". Tatjana Seserko is currently completing her Masters degree at the Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Visual Art, and is a local independent artist.
