The second annual UWA Historical Society Lecture will be given by by Dr Sue Boyd, former diplomat and President of the Australian Institute of International Affairs (WA Branch).
In 1969, Sue Boyd was elected first female president of the UWA Student Guild.
Student riots in the US and France and a tidal wave of protest against Australia’s involvement in Vietnam, made students aware of their power to make significant changes in the university and society and there was a readiness in government and university administration to accommodate their demands.
It was a heady time for Sue to be a student leader, and the networks made, and experiences gained during this period, laid the foundation for her fulfilling diplomatic career.
Dr Boyd spent 35 years pursuing Australia’s international interests as a senior Australian diplomatic representative in Europe, North America, Asia and the Pacific.
This lecture is free and open to the public, no RSVP required.
The Octagon Theatre bar will be available from 5.30pm and after the lecture.
