Sven Hennig was born in Coesfeld, Germany in 1979. He studied Biochemistry 65 km further south at the Ruhr-University of Bochum until 2004.
During his PhD 18 km further to the West at the Max-Planck Institute for molecular Physiology Sven was looking for X-ray structures of proteins playing a role in the circadian rhythm becoming a structural biologist. He finished after 3.5 years and kept on working in this group for a one-year post-doc.
Sven changed his methodological field as well as his research topics during the last year to the identification of small molecules as protein-protein stabilizer in the world of 14-3-3 proteins. Therefore he worked on the establishment of high-throughput- and industry-suitable protein-protein interaction assays and the identification of first small molecules as hits for downstream structural and kinetic studies. Here he became a kind of “Screener”.
During this time he started working on the project outline for a 2 years post-doc in the Fox-Lab about 6500 km half round the world in Perth, Australia at WAIMR. Here Sven wants to study the structure-function balance of paraspeckles and how they are hold together by protein-protein- but also for a big proportion by protein-RNA interactions.
