Dr. Andrew W. Minto has recently relocated to Perth from Chicago, Illinois, USA. In Chicago, he was an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago. His research focused on the development of novel mouse models of kidney disease, vitamin D responses in diabetic mice, and the study of a potent growth hormone potentiating enzyme, Nitrilase1. His previous experience included a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland where he examined rat genetic responses to the initiation of Thy1 nephritis. This study also examined the role of TGFβ isoforms and glomerular infitration of inflammatory cells. He completed a Ph.D. under David Salant at Boston University Medical School, on collagen isoform transformations in passive Heymann nephritis. Dr. Minto also has a Master of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Glasgow Veterinary School. His research there included ultrastructural definition of the cat kidney and the discovery of a novel kidney lesion. His undergraduate degree was completed at Glasgow University where he studied Parasitology under Adrian Hopkins. There his research concerned the trafficking of intestinal mast cells.
