Farming the future with lessons from the past: 30 years of sustainability practice in WA farming organisations : CWR Seminar Other events...

The recently released Parliamentary Inquiry Report “Farming the Future” suggests the need to support farmers to adapt to the impact of climate change through innovation, carbon sequestration and other strategies to increase productivity of food and fibre. They have stressed the importance of soil stabilisation, pasture improvement and soil water retention strategies for this to occur.

In this talk, I will give an overview of two farming organisations who have carried out research and development in the area of soil stabilisation and water retention over the past 30 years and discuss the tensions between promoting technologies devised by community science and the impact on organisational sustainability.
