Friends of the Library talk : Many years a thief: the tragic story of the first European executed in Western Australia |
Other events...

In 1844, John Gavin, a 15-year-old boy, became the first European to be executed in the colony of Western Australia. He had arrived in Fremantle just months earlier, one of a group of juvenile convicts taking part in an attempted rehabilitation scheme. David Hutchison will tell how he first learned of John Gavin’s tragic story, and will describe the research he undertook to write his novel Many years a thief.
