Mujeres : Mother's Day performance featuring Paloma Gomez and Danza Viva Spanish Dance Company Other events...
To mark Mothers’ Day, Paloma Gomez, one of Spain’s most lauded dancers, will be the featured soloist with an all-female Danza Viva Spanish Dance Company at the Octagon Theatre (on the campus of the University of Western Australia) on Sunday 9 May at 3pm.

In a program entitled MUJERES (Spanish for ‘women’), Paloma Gomez , a former principal dancer with Spain’s National Ballet Company, will present her own choreography of Albeniz’ Cordoba as well as a number of pure flamenco solos.

In response to audience demand, Danza Viva Spanish Dance Company will be showcased in Peteneras and Tientos por Tangos, both choreographed by Jose Torres.

Danza Viva will also present Blacher’s choreographies of Orgia from Turina’s Danzas Fantasticas and the Intermezzo from Goyescas by Granados.

There will also be a rare opportunity to experience the artistry of Deanna Blacher, one of the world’s few virtuosos of the castanets, for whom numbers of composers have written castanet concertos. (Blacher is also the founder and artistic director of Danza Viva.) She will be partnered at the piano by Zen Zheng in music for castanets and piano by Granados.

There are also special Mothers’ Day packages: Mother and Daughter - $65 and Family of 4 - $130.
