Depending on the place where you live, you may consider the same thing (water in a reservoir) from two different perspective. If you live along the shore of a lake, in a developed nation, you will likely be interested in understanding the lake inner dynamics. On the other hand, if you live downstream of the reservoir dam, you will be more naturally inclined to investigate the potential effects of the emptying process that follows a possible dam failure.
In this seminar we shall present some recent results on this latter problem, investigating the applicability field of Shallow Water Equations and providing operative tools to civil and environmental engineers working in the field of land planning.
