EVENT: Training Exercise for Engineering Students
|
|
On Friday afternoon, March 26, engineering students will perform a training exercise on the Crawley campus. They will carry simulated hazardous waste from a chemical spill in wheelbarrows across the campus to the Oak lawn. They will be dressed in protective suits and will be setting up signs to direct pedestrian and other traffic on some parts of the campus.
Please rest assured, this is a training exercise and the water they will be carrying is harmless.
As part of this training, they are required to keep people away from the hazardous material and explain why they need to do this.
You are welcome to take the part of an anxious, concerned or even angry member of the public to provide added realism for the students. This exercise is designed to help them develop effective organisational and communication skills in the context of managing hazardous operations. They have to learn how to do this and how to comply with safety and environmental regulations.
