Dual-process models of behaviour recognise the importance of both “reasoned” and “unreasoned” influences. However, systematic analysis of the less reasoned influences has lagged behind that of the more reasoned influences because of inadequate conceptualisation and measurement of the habit construct. In this presentation, a multidimensional framework for the analysis of exercise habits will be proposed, and evidence for the framework’s construct validity will be presented. The database for the presentation will be a series of recently-completed studies of aerobic exercise in adolescents and young adults.
