Sudden cardiac death (SCD) in a young athlete during sport is an uncommon event however; the high profile media coverage combined with the public’s perception that athletes represent the healthiest portion of society results in a significant and widespread impact associated with such events.
Professor Greg Whyte is one of British sport's foremost research scientists and internationally renowned for his work on the heart of athletes and performance enhancement and has worked as consultant physiologist to a large number of Olympic and professional sports. Prior to his appointment at Liverpool John Moores University, Professor Whyte was the Director of Science and Research at the English Institute of Sport (EIS) from 2004-2006, and the Director of Research for the British Olympic Association based at the Olympic Medical Institute from 2001-2004.
