Moderate intensity, moderate duration exercise is widely recognized as being wholly beneficial for health. In contrast, the impact of repeated bouts of high intensity, prolonged bouts of exercise are not fully understood. The growing number of endurance and ultra-endurance events in recent times elevates the importance of understanding the physiological impact of such events.
Professor Greg Whyte is one of British sport's foremost research scientists and internationally renowned for his work on the heart of athletes and performance enhancement and has worked as consultant physiologist to a large number of Olympic and professional sports. Prior to his appointment at Liverpool John Moores University, Professor Whyte was the Director of Science and Research at the English Institute of Sport (EIS) from 2004-2006, and the Director of Research for the British Olympic Association based at the Olympic Medical Institute from 2001-2004.
