Exploring the Dark Side of the Universe : In association with the Launch of the Australian International Gravitational Observatory (AIGO) project, UWA invites you to explore the dark side of the Universe soon to be revealed by gravitational wave detectors on earth and in space. Other events...
Family friendly lectures for all who care about the awesome and mysterious Universe.

New detectors will allow us to probe the beginning of time in the big bang and the end of time in black holes, and processes where space and time are warped and distorted.   Two outstanding speakers – leading experts on gravitational waves – will present lectures including spectacular supercomputer generated movies of the birth of black holes. In audio you will hear the music of the spheres – sounds of the universe in gravitational waves from the big bang, supernova explosions, neutron stars and black holes. You will learn how the most sensitive instruments ever devised have been created to probe places beyond the reach of normal telescopes, where only gravitational waves can reach us. Ticket prices: $20 per Adult; $10 per Concession/Student
Speaker(s) Prof. Andrew Melatos, University of Melbourne and Prof. Karsten Danzmann, Albert Einstein Institute, Germany
