You are invited to the Official Opening of the UWA Future Farm which is situated at Page Road, West Pingelly. The Farm will be officially opened by Hon Robyn McSweeney at 11am on Friday 20 November 2009. There will be food available from a local Pingelly community organisation. Please see program at www.ioa.uwa.edu.au
There will be displays and talks on current issues in farming, including soils profiling, GM crops, Pastures, WA Herbicide Resistance Initiative, Chickpeas, WA No-Till Farmers Association, GIS, Agricultural Regional Development, Ecological Restoration, Carbon Neutral, DAFWA, CSIRO, Forest Products Commission, and a display of the Farm buildings designed by the UWA Faculty of Architecture.
The UWA Future Farm will become a model farm practising “clean, green and ethical” food production. Food security will become a major issue for this century and this Farm will provide the infrastructure for research projects in farming systems, ecosystem management, rural policy and development, and sustainability practices.
TRANSPORT: The Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences is arranging for bus transport to leave from the University at 8:30am on Friday 20 November. This bus will return by 5.30pm on that day. Numbers will be tight – so room on the bus will be on a first in first served basis. Contact the Institute of Agriculture at
[email protected] to reserve your place.
We look forward to your participation in this important day for UWA and hope to see you at the Farm.
