|
|
Rachel Thomas, a graduate of the UWA maths department, has worked for the Millennium Mathematics Project (MMP) at the University of Cambridge for the past 9 years. The MMP promotes mathematics to the wider community through a range of projects, including an online maths clubs for students aged 5-19, hands-on roadshows, videoconferences linking schools with working mathematicians and scientists, workshops with teachers and students, and public lectures. Rachel edits Plus magazine (http://plus.maths.org), the MMP's free online magazine that opens a door onto the world of mathematics for the general public.
In this talk, Rachel will discuss the range of ways she collaborates with academics and industry experts to producing engaging and accessible mathematics, and how communicating science to the general public has changed over the last decade.
