'Posthumanism, Animal Alterity, Ethics and Biopolitics' addresses representations of animals in science fiction from the point of view of Foucault's ideas about biopolitics. Using Karen Traviss' ‘Wess'Har Wars’ series as an example, it explores the ways that challenges to the human/animal boundary open up a space for a new kind of posthuman identity that emerges from a new sense of ethical relations among species.
Sherryl Vint is an Associate Professor at Brock University in Canada. She is the author of ‘Bodies of Tomorrow: Technology, Subjectivity, Science Fiction’ (2007) and has recently completed ‘Animal Alterity: Science Fiction and the Question of the Animal’. She is an editor of ‘The Routledge Companion to Science Fiction’ and of the journals ‘Extrapolation’ and ‘Science Fiction Film and Television’.
