CONFERENCE: Common Word Conference 2009

In recent years, the focus on Islam in Western nations has become significant, particularly the way in which Muslims can live harmoniously in these nations. Key events such as Pope Benedict XVI’s address to Regensburg University in September 2006, as well as the Danish Cartoon controversy subsequently, have led to global tensions between Muslims and Christians. It is essential that Muslim and Christian communities strive to build bridges of understanding and engage in mutual respect

Issued in October 2007, and endorsed by 138 Muslim scholars and leaders, A Common Word Between Us and You is an open letter to Christian leaders everywhere. It is an historical and unprecedented document that further paved the way in developing deeper and more enriching relationships between people of faith.

This conference builds on continuing to engage in the discourse between Islam and the West. Speakers have been hand-picked to reflect the global nature and theme of inclusiveness in A Common Word Between Us and You.
