UWA Albany Skywest Series Lecture : Shifting comfort. Experiences of an idea of home Other events...
Local artist and teacher, Dr Barbie Greenshields, was the first Australian artist to be selected in the exchange program between Albany’s Vancouver Arts Centre and the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. With the support of the Department of Culture and the Arts, Dr Greenshields was granted a project development grant to research and develop a new body of sculptural work for exhibition.

In this lecture, Dr Greenshields will share her experiences as an artist in residence in Scotland. She will look at the themes of her research including the concept of comfort, belonging and the possibility of discovering a personal connection with a far distant place and far distant others. Dr Greenshields will also discuss these ideas within the context of her current exhibition, as the ideas of the research are the same as those of the exhibition at the Vancouver Arts Centre (5-14 June).

Dr Barbie Greenshields received her PhD in Fine Art from Griffith University, Queensland and returned to Albany in 2005. Since her return to her hometown, she has engaged in community oriented arts events as curator, mentor and exhibitor, presented papers at national conferences as well as teaching Visual Art with Curtin University at UWA Albany.
