Professor Delp’s work draws on computational mechanics, biomedical imaging, computer vision, and neuromuscular biology to improve treatments for individuals with physical disabilities. Professor Delp led the development of a software system that enables modeling and simulation of complex human and animal movements – a software system that has become the platform for an international collaboration involving hundreds of research centers. Professor Delp also developed fundamental patents for surgical navigation, and commercialised this technology through the Medtronics Corp.
