How can we design a beautiful garden and consider conservation at the same time?
Dr Claire Farrell will address the issues of urban habitat fragmentation, loss of biodiversity and disruption of ecological processes.
By combining “conservation” and “landscape design”, landscapes can provide habitat, connectivity, maintain ecosystem function and have an education value.
They can also provide harmonious and pleasant spaces for the community to use.
The presentation will describe key concepts for the south of Western Australia using native vegetation communities as models to improve urban biodiversity and ecosystem structure and function.
Dr Claire Farrell recently completed a PhD on the sustainability of salt-land rehabilitation in the agricultural wheatbelt of W.A.
Currently she is a research associate and lecturer based at the UWA Centre of Excellence in Natural Resource Management in Albany.
