The move to establish a regional art gallery in Albany has been gaining momentum, with the recently released Community Vision for Albany listing this as the top cultural goal.
What makes a good regional gallery? Mark will present a photo tour and case study of the Canberra Museum, capturing the essence of what to do and what not to do in establishing a regional gallery.
Drawing on his extensive experience with regional galleries and his current role with ACT Museums and Galleries, Mark Van Veen will share different models for regional galleries to add to current community discussions.
Mark Van Veen has thirty years’ experience employed in art museums, tertiary institutions and commercial galleries in Canada and Australia. He worked at the National Gallery of Australia for 11 years and is currently the Assistant Director (Exhibitions and Curatorial) ACT Museums and Galleries. Mark is one of the judges for the 2009 City of Albany Art Prize.
