EVENT: BRANDING CHILDHOOD: GROWING UP WITH THE NEW MARKETING
|
|
We think of childhood as the space where children discover their capacities without exploitation or undue exposure to situations they are unable to cope with. Over the last two decades the privatisation of public culture combined with the rapid rise of the internet, mobile phones and games consoles has seen that space become progressively commandeered by advertising and marketing designed to mobilise children's activities around branded consumption. This talk examines the main forms this new marketing takes and explores the ethical issues it raises.
