PERFORMANCE: The Merchant of Venice
|
|
Directed by Edgar Metcalfe, a man well known to Perth theatre audiences, the play is set in 1930s Italy. The Merchant is well known as a tale of intrigue, romance, greed, racism and revenge. The financial and moral bankruptcy of 1930s Europe create a powerful backdrop for showing the explosive mix of human frailty and heroism that constitute Shakespeare's play. Played in the delightful surroundings of The New Fortune Theatre in the Arts Building at UWA, bookings can be made through BOCS Ph 9484 1133, or outlets including the Octagon Box Office.
