Your guides are Elders, kids and teenagers from the Alice Springs community sharing language and culture through acrobatics, animations, songs and humour. The site keeps growing all the time and gives you an active role in saving one of the world’s disappearing languages.
Getting to grips with Pitjantjatjara is all part of the Ngapartji Ngapartji project (means: I give you something, you give me something) to increase awareness and understanding of the peoples in the Western desert.
Taking the course gives you a free ticket to the Ngapartji Ngapartji theatre production that will be one of the 2007 Perth Festival highlights – the powerful story of Trevor Jamieson’s family and their journey through the 20th century. This epic performance shows the impact of world events on Trevor’s small desert community through the Cold War, global conspiracy and politics.
You don’t need to take the course to see the show, but knowing some local words and cultural concepts will give you an intimate insight into this unique project.
To find out more about this exciting opportunity, see www.ninti.ngapartji.org to register!
Just a reminder that the 2007 Perth Festival programme will be announced on 13 November, with the Lotterywest Festival Films starting on 4 December. Register now for your 2007 Perth Festival brochure on the Festival website.
See you at the Festival!
