PUBLIC LECTURE: Money and Politics
Abstract: What role do donations to political parties and candidates play in our democratic system? Do we have a system of differential representation for those with and without significant financial resources? Will the proposed public funding of candidates electoral expenses in Western Australia address this issue, or are other reforms required?
These questions and more will be investigated by a panel including political scientists and Members of Parliament. The panel will include Associate Professor David Denemark, who will set the scene with a short presentation on the role of campaign finance in the United States, where expenditure for each election campaign now totals $2 billion, fuelling a perpetual quest to secure campaign funds.
ALL WELCOME. NO RESERVATION REQUIRED.
