Lecture Series: PROF. ADEL EL MENCHAWY

Dr Adel S El Menchawy is a visiting Professor in the Faculty of Fine Arts, and an Associate Professor of Egyptology, Architecture at the College of Engineering at Alexandria. He arranges tour programs for international groups providing lectures and field trips. While in Perth he will deliver a series of four lectures on Egyptian Art and Architecture.
1. THE GLORY OF KING TUT
Discover King Tut Ankhamun - the golden Pharaoh - his tomb, its decoration and treasures, including the Royal funeral furniture and the recent examinations of the Royal Mummy.

2.SECRETS OF THE EGYPTIAN PYRAMIDS
The Pyramids as royal tombs or houses for eternity, as well as the monumental pyramid complexes in Saqara and Giza and the Mastaba tombs. We will also trace the development of Pyramid complexes through Egyptian civilisation, the differing Pyramids types, theories of construction, and decoration, as a reflection of Egyptian Engineering and Architecture.

3. THE ROYAL THEBAN NECROPOLI: TOMBS IN THE VALLEY OF THE KINGS
This lecture will explore the west bank of Thebes, the capital of Ancient Egypt and the beginning of the journey to the afterworld, from funeral practices and mummifications, to the trip in to the other world. We will also discuss the the Royal Theban Necropolises as well as those of the Nobles and civilians, the city of the dead, architecture and decoration, tombs of the pharaoh's and queens with their historical and artistic treasures. .Finally, the funeral temples at the Theban Necropolises
4. TREASURES OF NUBIA IN THE LAND OF THE PHAROAHS
This lecture will illustrate the Nubian cultural heritage within the Egyptian context. We will examine its natural resources, monuments and traditions together with the Nubian pharaohs, the pharaonic, Greek and Roman temples in Nubia and the rescue of the magnificent Nubian temples. We will also look at some of the contemporary projects
