He will explore the industry-changing impact of digital technology and media convergence on the production and delivery of screen content.
The talk will identify and analyse some of the key characteristics of productions that succeed in the fast changing, digital audiovisual environment. Malcolm will argue that major changes in the structure of the Australian screen production industry are necessary if the independent sector is to be creatively and commercially successful into the future. He discusses what these changes mean for screen producers; how they shape their own careers and operate their businesses.

MALCOLM LONG
Malcolm Long is Director of the Australian Film Television and Radio School, Australia's national institution for advanced training in the screen, broadcast and digital media industries.
He has had a wide ranging career in broadcasting and the Australian screen industries, including as a consultant in media and digital communications strategy. He was Managing Director of SBS Corporation from 1993 – 98 where he established the TV production house SBS Independent and the World Movies subscription TV channel. He has been Deputy Managing Director of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and prior to that Director of ABC Radio. Internationally, he is a past Chairman of the London-based International Institute of Communications.
Malcolm Long is a Member of the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
He has been a producer and network manager in broadcasting and has spoken and written widely on the impact of new media and communications technologies on content development, production and delivery.
