THE RELIGION OF THE ANCIENT GREEKS
An examination through ancient literary sources, epigraphy and the archaeological record generally the religious beliefs and practices of the Ancient Greeks in the Classical and Hellenistic Periods. We will review the pantheon of Greek gods and the tradition of heroes, the structure of Greek sanctuaries and the special significance of Olympia and Delphi. Throughout the course we will consider the degree to which elements of Ancient Greek religion are recognisable in religious beliefs and practices of today.
