An Evening with Mark Kingwell
Crayon in the Brain: Machining Happiness in the Time of Homer
Charles de Gaulle said 'Happiness is for idiots', implying that intelligence makes you unhappy. Would you choose to be happy all the time if it meant giving up on being smart? Philosopher and cultural theorist Mark Kingwell considers one of life's biggest questions – What is happiness, exactly, and how much does it cost? He unpeels society's layers of what happiness should be, to determine whether you must be, today, a happiness delinquent.
Mark Kingwell is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Toronto and is the author of eight books of philosophy and cultural theory; he will be joined by Professor Andrew Brennan from the University of WA.
