Walkley award winning journalist and United Nations Peace Award recipient Ian McPhedran will join us to discuss his best selling book 'Secret Wars: The Amazing SAS'. Ian was granted unprecedented access to the men and methods of Australia's Special Air Service (SAS) Regiment in order to share their true stories. Currently the world's most highly resepected special forces regiment, the SAS is a crack team of men from the Australian Defence Force who can be relied upon to handle the most difficult, strategically sensitive and dangerous of military tasks.Understand SAS recruitment and training and discover formerly secret details of recent deployments including the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, East Timor, Afghanistan and the regiment's recent mission to Iraq.

About the speaker: Walkley Award winnder and United Nations Peace Award Winner Ian McPhedran is News Limited's Canberra Bureau Chief and Defence Writer, and Australia's foremost writer on defence and security matters. He most recently distinguished himself by his reportage from Baghdad during the war in Iraq. During 25 years in journalism, Ian has worked as editor of The Wellington Times, chief of staff of The Land, foreign affairs and defence reporter for The Canberra Times, and defence and foreign affairs correspondent for News Limited. In 1993 he won the United Nations Association of Australia peace prize for coverage of the 1992 Vietnam veterans' reunion weekend in Canberra.
