Dr Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela is senior consultant for reconciliation at the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation in Cape Town. A clinical psychologist, she is a former member of the Human Rights Violations Committee of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). A highly acclaimed human rights activist and academic, Dr Gobodo-Madikizela's lecture will inspire and touch each one of you and help you embark on a journey of healing through reconciliation, justice and the gift of forgiveness.
As a member of the board of International Alert, Dr Gobodo-Madikizela is deeply aware of the trauma and the complexity of apology and forgiveness after mass atrocity. She is convinced that there is no other way to move forward except through forgiveness and reconciliation.
For her work, she has received fellowships and teaching awards from Brandeis University, Harvard University, the University of Michigan, the University of Southern California, and the University of California at Los Angeles, the Peace Fellowship at the Bunting Program of the Radcliffe Institute fo Advanced Studies at Harvard University, the Dr Jean Mayer Global Citizenship Award at Tufts University, the Human Rights Award from the Canadian organisation Women for Women, and an honorary doctorate of law from Holy Cross College.
