SYMPOSIUM: Hybrids Symposium
|
|
The Institute of Advanced Studies invites you to
A symposium to celebrate the work of Professors Gillian Beer and John Beer during their visit to the University of Western Australia in 2005
Convened by Associate Professor Daniel Brown, English, UWA
Abstract: Hybrids: outrages against nature, bizarre progeny born of mythological matings, the consequences of cross-fertilisation, of hot-house passions and calculations, robust but sterile, evolutionary cul-de-sacs, marking the biological limits to parallellisms between species, mules and hinnys, the entropic degradation or the reinvigoration of fixed forms, products of miscegenation or of multi-culturalism, ‘art improving upon nature’, secondary colours, green carnations, artists without halos, perfectly resolved montages and unhappy cyborgs, a little chaos amongst the categories.
Participants:
Professor John Beer;
Professor Don Bradshaw;
Professor Richard Yeo:
Dr Vanessa Smith;
