TALK: Friends of the Library talk

Dead men talking - what the dead of Isola Sacra have to say about the pros and cons of cold water swimming and weight bearing exercise. Isola Sacra is a picturesque Roman period cemetery lying between the ancient harbour towns of Portus and Ostia. The 2000 skeletons recovered from the site to date provide an unparalleled opportunity to understand some of the ways in which diet and exercise affected the lives of past populations. This illustrated lecture will provide a snapshot of the people who once lived in one of the greatest cultural melting pots of the ancient world.
