SEMINAR: ARIA-WA AGM and Seminar

The Association for Research between Italy and Australia (WA) is an association that encourages active collaboration between Australian and Italian scientists. Researchers of Italian background or those who have (or wish to initiate) collaboration with Italian researchers are welcome to join ARIA-WA. Two events are being held on the 24th of August 2005 - the Annual General Meeting and a seminar on Mediation by Su Lloyd. Members and non-members are invited to either or both events.

The Annual General Meeting of ARIA-WA is being held on the 24th August at UWA starting at 4.45pm with drinks/nibbles. The AGM will begin at 5pm sharp.

Following the AGM, at 6.15pm, there will be a seminar given by Su Lloyd on MEDIATION: RESOLVING ISSUES OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS. Intellectual property rights, particularly in the higher education sector, are often hotly contested. For example, if a research student or academic develops a commercially valuable invention, who owns the intellectual property rights? And if there is a challenge to ownership of these intellectual property rights, how will this be resolved? Litigation is expensive, time consuming and often disruptive.

Su Lloyd is the principal of Lloyd and Associates, a city law firm specialising in employment, intellectual property, contract and administrative law. Mediation and negotiation are the firm’s preferred approaches to supporting their clients. Su graduated in law from Murdoch University in 1997. Su also holds a B.Ed from the same university. She is an accredited mediator with the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia (“IAMA”), a member of LEADR, an approved mediator for the Supreme Court of Western Australia, and a Grade 3 graded arbitrator. Su has also presented the national Practitioners Course in Mediation and Conciliation for IAMA in Perth for the past 4 years.
