Justice Michael Kirby's addrress will be followed by a panel of high profile speakers including the Chief Justice of Western Australia Hon Chief Justice Malcolm, Patron Coalition of Peoples, Hon Fred Chaney Reconciliation Australia, Marlene Jackamarra-Carnamah, Chairperson Coalition of Peoples Dennis Eggington Director Aboriginal Legal Service, Ningala Claynton Yarran the first Aboriginal woman to work in the Department of Public Prosecutions and Caroline Wood, Amnesty International Australia.
Justice Kirby will also launch a series of lectures and workshops, that will focus on healing as a mechanism to stop collective and intergenerational violence and support victims towards a way of healing through sharing their stories. Three workshops are planned around this theme, Healing without Violence, Alternatives to Violence and Circles of Healing: Sharing our Stories is intended to be a gathering of women in solidarity with each other.
Justice Kirby has been a High Court judge since 1996, having previously served as President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal, the first Chairperson of the Australian Law Reform Commission and as a Federal Court judge.
