EVENT: BECOMING EMILY BRONTE
|
|
Wuthering Heights: perhaps the most loved novel in English. But what sort of love is this that destroys an entire generation? Can one marry and keep a lover? Full of the preternatural, the uncanny, the gothic, here is a very different concept of writer, of novel. What possessed Emily Bronte to think in such a way? Join us to unveil perhaps the most famous (and strangest) literary family in English literature. The Bronte's changed the face of the novel, so we will explore not only the perplexities of Wuthering Heights, but also Emily's poetry and the fantasy world of the moors. It will be a journey that will take us into a very different time, into different values and feelings. But her world is also ours, of jilted love and fantastic revenge. And our aim will be to become-as much as we can-participants in two worlds, the past as it was, the present as Emily would envisage it!
