Re-enacting Cook’s Voyage up the East Coast of Australia
An illustrated lecture by Iain McCalman Federation Fellow, Humanities Research Centre, Australian National University
Acclaimed historian and author Iain McCalman welcomes you onboard the most famous vessel of the Age of Enlightenment, HMS Endeavour, to follow in the wake of Cook’s voyage of exploration. Ironically, in a romantic age, life onboard
was far from that - to the modern observer unbearable to downright horrifying. Iain McCalman was an historical consultant and participant in the six-part BBC2 reenactment
series of Cook’s first voyage, entitled “The Ship”.
