Dr Adel S El Menchawy is a visiting Professor in the Faculty of Fine Arts, and an Associate Professor of Egyptology, Architecture at the College of Engineering at Alexandria. He arranges tour programs for international groups providing lectures and field trips. While in Perth he will deliver a series of four lectures on Egyptian Art and Architecture.
Lecture 1. THE SECRETS OF NEW DISCOVERIES OF THE PHARONIC CIVILISATION
This lecture will concentrate on the new discoveries in the Valley of the Golden Mummies and the oases of Egypt, with about 10,000 mummies covered with golden masks and ornaments, underwater excavations in Cleopatra's Palace in Alexandria and new discoveries at the ancient lighthouse area. New findings on the Pharonic civilisation will also be discussed.

Lecture 2. ART AND ARCHITECTURE IN THE LAND OF THE PHAROAHS
This lecture will illustrate visual tours in the ancient Egyptian civilisation including the art works and treasures of the Pharoahs, their furniture, sculpture, colours, jewellery. While in the architecture side, the houses of the Pharoahs, their palaces, temples and Houses of Eternity (tombs).

Lecture 3. SPLENDOURS OF EGYPTIAN VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE
Covering 3 main topics including vernacular architecture in the Egyptian oasis, art and architecture of the Coptic monasteries in the Egyptian deserts and recent vernacular architecture movements in Egypt (of Hassan Fathy and others).

Lecture 4. ALEXANDRIA, THE CITY OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT AND CLEOPATRA
This lecture will explore the historical background as well as the urban, demographic, cultural and political development of Alexandria from the time of Alexander the Great until the present day. This includes the extension of the city through different ages, the Ptolemaic, Roman, Islamic, Turkish and more recent periods, with illustrations of the new projects in the city, such as the new library of Alexandria.
