The Golden Age of Radio:
bringing back memories of what it was like before television arrived in 1956
(We'll remember the stars, the serials, the ads and the ABC)
David Hawkes is one of Australia's most experienced and versatile broadcasters. Until his retirement at the end of June, 2003, he had been "on air" for 48 years, working in radio and television for the ABC and commercials networks in New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia.
Over the past 32 years, during his time in the West, David has been seen as a television newsreader, interviewer, co-host of the successful cooking program, "Two for the Pot", frontman for the games show, "FairGo!", anchorman for the current affairs program, "Statewide" and in a variety of other presentation roles.
On radio, he took over from the legendary John Juan to present the 6WF (720) breakfast session, hosted broadcasts by the WA Symphony Orchestra, and presented frequent specials.
In 1984 David joined the staff of the WA Academy of Performing Arts, at Edith Cowan University, to set up the Media Performance Department.
In 1987 he returned to the staff of the ABC, where he was chiefly heard presenting Radio News.
For more than 20 years David has been sharing his knowledge and experience in communication skills by way of workshops, lectures and seminars.
