WHO AM I? AN EXPLORATION OF BUDDHIST PHILOSOPHY : A UWA EXTENSTION SHORT COURSE Other events...
Buddhism has a unique understanding of selfhood and happiness that has brought it great popularity in recent times. This course will explore questions such as : Who Am I? What is Enlightenment? Who was the Buddha? Why don't Buddhists believe in a self or soul? Through discussion, activiites and lectures, this course will provide and introduction to the philosophical underpinnings of a religion which pre-dates Christianity.

Course outline Week 1 - Introduction Week 2 Who was the Buddha Week 3 Suffering and its cessation Week 4: Who am I? Not self and the personality Week 5: Enlightenment here and now Week 6: Buddhists: beats and Hollywood - Buddhism comes west

Jean-Marie Byrne Jean Marie Byrne is a PhD candidate at the University of Queensland and also a yoga teacher. She has practised yoga and Buddhist meditation throughout Asia in monasteries and ashrams and has taught Buddhist studies at Queensland Universities.
