SHAKESPEARE AND SEXUAL DIFFERENCE. : A UWA Extension Short Course |
Other events...

Following the interest generated by Germaine Greer's talk on this subject in the Spring School, this series explores the ways in which Shakespeare's works have reflected, and even created, popular perceptions of differences between men and women, especially in love relationships. Are these differences real or illusory, innate or culturally constructed, western or 'universal'? Why has Shakespeare exerted such a pervasive influence over such issues? The works to be primarily discussed will be Romeo and Juliet, Venus and Adonis, As You Like It, Othello, The Sonnets, and Antony and Cleopatra, although other works will also be referred to.
