COURSE: THE SECRETS OF FLANDERS
|
|
In the 12th and 13th centuries the cities of Flanders became enormously wealthy as the centre of a vast cloth production and distribution network across northern Europe. The newly enriched cities such as Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp displayed their wealth in grand civic buildings and magnificent cathedrals, and their wealthy merchants patronised glorious religious art. Discover the cultural secrets in the art, architecture and histories of these still largely untouched medieval gems as well as the modern enticements of delicate lacework, boutique beers and Belgian chocolate.
