Profile:
Professor Della Sala was a Senior Consultant Neurologist at the University Teaching Hospital in Milan and also Head of the Neuropsychology Unit, University of Pavia before moving to a chair in Neuropsychology at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland in 1994. Chair of Human Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh, his interests span a number of areas of neuropsychology including: neurodegenerative disorders; apraxia; agnosia; ageing and cognitive decline; memory impairments; and deficits in object recognition. His current work is focused on the role of the pre-frontal lobes of the brain in cognition and action.
Professor Della Sala has an outstanding scientific track record, with over 200 papers in refereed journals, six monographs and several popular science articles. In 1996 he was awarded USA Academy of Neuropsychology Award for the best contribution of the year to Clinical Neuropsychology.
Professor Della Sala is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, an Honorary Member of the US Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and Editor of Cortex, one of the pre-eminent journals in the field.
