With Jon Doust, Bernard Carney and Roger Montgomery. The Bruce Brothers and Bernard Carney, honey-toned balladist bring alive in story and song the Oz tradition of yarn spinning and balladeering. Life was and can still be extraordinarily tough in our great white brown land. Having a natural avversion to whingeing about fate, the average Oz Sheila and Bloke make light of the horrendous conditions they were forced to endure. Luckily, Noah's flood became a rather inconvenient shower of rain, a year drought 'it's a bit bloody dry mate you'll have to rub yourself down with some warm bulldust! Lousy food and accommodation was celebrated in poem and song, most often presented in a laconic, sardonic manner. Jon Doust, a Bridgetown boy, takes you through the South West of WA where men were tough and the women tougher. Bernard Carney's ballads roam from the totally hilarious through to marvellous pastiches of some of our not -so- well-known citizenry. His dry introductions and cheeky humour only serve to highlight his subject matter and he has a beautiful voice. Roger Montgomery will regale you with yarns of Uncle Jimbo, the world's biggest and worst rellie, or of Why Me, the lion-hearted diminutive truckie, whose luck deserted him at birth and of course the two blueys, boundary riders and crumbling relics of Oz get a guernsey expounding their own brand of terminal inexactitudes until their teeth fall out. A night of LIes, Laughter and Lunacy. Go for it you drongos!
