Ever thought of what goes on behind the scenes when a blockbuster international art exhibition arrives in Perth, like Monet and Japan or The Pre-Raphaelites? Now is the rare chance to hear all about it! Alan Dodge has had 33 years experience in the visual arts, having worked as everything from a teacher of art history to being a curator of European and American art. Three years at the National Gallery in Washington DC were followed by 21 years working at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra where he was one of the first members of staff and was instrumental in setting up a number of important departments there. He has published widely and holds various positions of influence in the Australian and international art world. Those who have heard Alan Dodge at WASO concerts and other events will know what an engaging speaker he is. He is currently working on a major exhibition for 2005, which will look at Russian art and theatre design centred on the city of St Petersburg at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. This is an opportunity to meet and hear an outstanding speaker in the quiet ambience of University House and, as places are limited, it is recommended that you book early. Cost of tickets is $30 for Members and $35 for Visitors and must be purchased in advance (RSVP by Monday 13 September please). Light refreshments will be served on arrival.
