PUBLIC TALK: Collecting Indonesian Batik: A Personal Journey
|
|
Elizabeth Scott is a collector of batik, and lender to the exhibition'Threading Cultures: Balinese Art and Indonesian Textiles, on display at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery from 30 April. Elizabeth began collecting batik in 1981, when she moved to Indonesia, and where she lived for 10 years. She found batik a way of communicating with people with whom she did not initially share a common language. Elizabeth has recently completed her PhD at UWA on Indonesian-Australian relations.
